Celebrities and their Garage Sales

Did you know there is a long love affair between celebrities and tag sales?

Nicole Kidman, Terri Hatcher, Pamela Anderson, CSI's Emily Procter, Tori Spelling and most recently former teen star Willie Aames are just a few fervent fans of hosting and visiting neighborhood sales. See what their garage sale interests are all about...

Sex Sells! Promote Your Garage Sale!

Face it, trying to promote your garage sale in the same space where up to 50 other individuals, organizations or multiple-family groups are doing the same thing can be challenging. Your event’s advertising needs to position your sale to draw the most attention with a "whatever it takes" attitude if you want to stand a chance at drawing attention, making a profit and getting rid of your stuff!

Offering FREE Items Can Potentially Increase your Sales' Success

Like many of us, you've probably visited a yard sale and found that the sellers have a sectioned off area where they're giving stuff away for free, and seen other sales where you wonder why the stuff they're selling isn't free.

Free stuff that has value to someone shouldn't be considered junk, but rather items and accessories that could possibly attract a larger crowd to your event with the hope that they'll peruse more than just the free items and actually buy your stuff.

The great thing about free items is that you both feel good about giving and receiving something for nothing!

Your Lawn is Not a Store (and Other Yard Sale Rules)

A Great Article we found, Listing Angie's Rules for a Successful Yard Sale:

    1) Your lawn is not a store. If I can get it new for pennies more, you have priced it too high. Most items should be 25 cents to 3 dollars. Furniture should be $5 (side tables, wooden rocking chairs, book shelves) to $15 (dressers, desks, upholstered chairs, children's furniture).

    2) "Antiques Road Show" is not filming in your driveway. Your mother got that jewelry box in a swap meet in the 1970's, so please refrain from telling anyone it's "Victorian".

    Unique Yard Sale Advertising Sign

After reading a couple blogs earlier this week on what other people think makes a yard sale successful, I came across an interesting advertising concept that I never thought of or had seen before.

    Garage Sale Trends

Every year, garage sales provide a good indication of past trends and technology.

We're always on the lookout for interesting content for our blog, so when we researched "Garage Sale Trends" and came across Mark Olson's blog regarding some trends he noticed during some sales in Minnesota back in 2007, we just had to share his findings with you.

A few trends stood out more than other years:

Great Secondhand Items that don’t have to be Purchased New

If Interior Designers can furnish a home with garage sale finds then you should have few excuses for buying some of these great items secondhand:

You might not think it at first, but you can score some pretty awesome bargains on hardware, including tools at garage sales, especially if you pick up items in the “off season.” Maybe you just need a random coffee can full of nuts and bolts or you might find a box of unopened nails just the size you’re looking for. As long as you don’t see any rust or damage, these items can still be put to good use.
